- Soak moong dal for 2 -3 hrs, grind it adding garlic - ginger paste and green chillies as per taste. Make thick batter. If batter is not thick it won’t shape well as appes
- Next add semolina and curd to the batter. Add chopped spinach, mashed sweet kernel, Chaat masala and salt. Mix well. Keep it aside for half an hour at least.
- Add the soda bi carbonate to the batter and ensure to move it one direction only to mix it well.
- Pre heat appam pan, grease it with oil. Sprinkle sesame seeds and mustard seeds. Once it starts to crackle put 2 tbsp of the batter in it.
- Let it cook on medium flame. Cover the appam pan with lid. Once the lower surface becomes golden brown turn each appe upside down using a spoon so as to cook them from the other side as well and let it cook for 2 minutes.
- Serve immediately or pack it up in tiffins for kids with coconut chutney or tomato 🍅 sauce.
